St. Charles West Pounds Fort Zumwalt South in Opener

Fort Zumwalt South loses its home opener to St. Charles West by a score of 34-21.

St. Charles West went on the road to Fort Zumwalt South to open its 2011 Gateway Athletic Conference season.

Early on, both teams committed some lapses, creating missed tackles, passes and handoffs. But, when St. Charles West scored the first touchdown in the first quarter, the teams seemed to get into a more solid rhythm.  

Both Marcus Taylor of St. Charles West and Chase Abbington of Fort Zumwalt South shined for their respective teams (each played on offense and defense). Just when St. Charles West thought it might be getting ahead, Zumwalt kept battling back. However, the game would never be tied.

Not until the third quarter would St. Charles begin to pull away. When the dust finally settled, St. Charles West defeated their Gateway rivals by a score of 34-21.
