Trost played on the freshman volleyball team two years ago and was on the junior varsity team last year. The first-year varsity player has very simple goals.

“I want us to win,” she said. “We’re going to play hard and talk.”

Trost said her team hopes to improve its communication skills. She said her team “needs to talk a little more.”

“We were talking a lot and had really good passes,” she said on East’s second game lead against Central. “And we were killing it instead of dinking it over.”

The junior said “it felt great” to be in a varsity uniform against Central and that the speed of the game is faster than at the junior varsity level. Like many varsity athletes, Trost spent the summer preparing for the season, as she played club volleyball with the St. Charles Stars.

“It was good to play with them,” she said. “Everyone on the team improved their passing.”

Trost started playing volleyball with a team affiliated with the St. Charles Boys and Girls Club in seventh grade. Before that she’d played volleyball only recreationally. She’s decided she wants to continue her career in college.

“I’ve always loved volleyball,” she said. “I love the fact that I get to hit the ball. I just love hitting.”
