St. Louis Cardinals Season Ends in San Francisco

The Giants beat the Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 to end the Redbirds' 2012 season.

There will be no World Series in St. Louis this season.  There will be no parade down Market Street, no 12th world championship and no rematch of the 2006 Fall Classic. Monday night in San Francisco the Cardinals hopes of a repeat of 2011 were ended at the hands of the Giants.  Just like in 1996, the Cardinals, with a new manager, had a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship series. And, just like in '96, the Cards failed to get win No. 4, losing in Game 7 in a blowout.  The Cardinals were done in by a series of miscues and the inability to get a big basehit. But, credit the San Francisco, the Giants had to play perfect to come back and did just that.  The loss in California closes the book on an interesting season for the Cardinals…

The NLCS is shaping up to be a really close one! I am not sure who has the edge, since the Cardinals batting lineup is equally-matched against the Giants rotation. I wouldn’t be surprised if this series goes to seven games. I can’t wait to see today’s matchup, and I’ve set a reminder for it through my Hopper’s GameFinder app. A coworker at DISH told me about this feature, and it’s helped me keep …   more ›

Three St. Peters Baseball Stars Named to All-State Squad

Fort Zumwalt South infielder Gerrion Grim and Francis Howell Central's Jake Henson and Ryan Howard were named to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4 All-State squad.

The awards for baseball stars Gerrion Grim and Jake Henson.  Henson, a catcher for Francis Howell Central, and Grim, a pitcher/utility player for Fort Zumwalt South, were recently named to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4 All-State second team. Howell Central junior Ryan Howard was named an honorable mention.  The awards cap off quite a season, and career, for the two stars of the diamond.  Grim was sensational during his senior season for the Bulldogs. He was named the GAC North player of the year and was first-team All-Conference as a first baseman. With the bat, Grim led the GAC North in homers (4), triples (5) and RBIs (33). He was also tops in slugging percentage (.680), on-base percentage (.529) and walks…

Go Crazy Folks: What's Your Fondest Jack Buck Moment?

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Jack Buck's death. What is your favorite memory of the Hall of Fame St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster?

Seemingly everybody in St. Louis—baseball fan or not—has a great memory of Jack Buck, the legendary St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster.  Whether it was a candid moment on the streets outside Busch Stadium or a famous play-by-play call heard around the country, Jack Buck touched so many lives that he is considered St. Louis royalty. Here's a tribute Bob Costas, a St. Louis-native, left for Jack Buck in the book "Remembering Jack Buck: Wonderful Stories Celebrating The Life Of A Broadcasting Legend": "Jack had a presence in the life of anyone who was around St. Louis for any period of time. There were highlights—Ozzie Smith's home run, Jack Clark's home run, and the reading of the poem when baseball returned after the September 11 tragedy. …

Zumwalt South Alum Selected by Royals in MLB Draft

Fred Ford, a 2010 graduate at Fort Zumwalt South, was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Fred Ford's baseball career is staying in the state of Missouri. The Kansas City Royals selected the former Fort Zumwalt South prep star in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. After helping the Bulldogs win the 2009 State Championship, Ford graduated in 2010 and has spent the last two season playing for Jefferson College in Missouri.  Ford had huge numbers for Jefferson College  this season. He hit .432 with a .529 on-base percentage. He hit 13 homers and had 68 RBIs for the Vikings.  The selection of the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Ford was an off-the-grid selection by the Royals, at least in some eyes. Baseball America didn't have Ford among its top 500 prospects in the draft.  Ford is …

Fox 2 Video: Zumwalt South's Gerrion Grim Recognized

Fort Zumwalt South left-hander Gerrion Grim earned the Fox 2/Arby’s Athlete of the Week last week.

Fort Zumwalt South's baseball team pulled off an upset against Francis Howell in the Class 4, District 8 championship to claim a District title. A big factor in the upset was Gerrion Grim. On the mound, the Mizzou-bound right-hander was a big reason why the Bulldogs were able to overtake the favored Vikings. Grim pitched South past Howell with a complete game win. South won 5-3 and Grim struck out seven, walked two and gave up just two earned runs to earn the win. His showing on the mound earned the Fox 2/Arby’s Athlete of the Week last week. Grim's showing also has him nominated for the Patch Athlete of the Week award. The Bulldogs will host Parkway North at 4 p.m. today in the sectional round of the State Tournament.
