Two St. Peters basketball teams will get to play another game while another say its season end on Monday night. The Class 5, District 7 basketball tournament kicked off at the Fort Zumwalt North gym. The Fort Zumwalt South girls and the Zumwalt East boys basketball teams came away as winners and will advance in the tournament. On the losing side of the coin, the Zumwalt East girls and Francis Howell North boys will pack up and prepare for next year. The girls kicked the tournament off with a South (10-16) vs. East (2-24) matchup. February is almost over but the winter sports season is still powering on, although the number of athletes still involved is dwindling by the day. This last weekend saw the end of the wrestling and swimming seasons. This week, for most of the basketball teams in St. Peters, the playoffs begin. One more loss, and the season is over. It's the best time of the year, it's playoff time. It's District basketball time for most teams in Missouri—including three St. Peters high schools. District basketball playoffs kick off this week for teams in Gateway Athletic Conference. That means that the regular season, the one that begin way back in November, is over. The O’Fallon Christian Academy Eagles basketball team’s defense and rebounding certainly created a lot of scoring opportunities in last night’s contest against the Lutheran St. Charles Cougars at Lutheran. The Cougars committed 15 turnovers in the 71-58 loss to Christian while the Eagles committed 10. “In the Fox Tournament, we had two really tough games,” O’Fallon coach Dave Meers said. “We had a lot of defensive intensity. The St. Dominic Lady Crusaders basketball team wasted little time in building a sizeable lead in last night’s AAA Conference showdown against the Lutheran St. Charles Lady Cougars at Lutheran High School. Lauren Needham’s basket at the 2:22 mark in the first quarter gave St. Dominic a 21-0 lead in the battle of two previously unbeaten AAA schools. The early lead propelled the Lady Crusaders past Lutheran 73-55.
