Lane closures will be coming to westbound Interstate 70 starting on Monday. The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the far right lane of westbound Interstate 70 near Route 79 on Monday, April 22 at 3 a.m. The closure begins a half mile east of Route 79 and ends at the Route 79 exit. This closure will remain in place for the next three months. The Route 79 exit remains open. This work is part of a project constructing a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The project also includes the construction of an additional westbound I-70 lane between Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Route 79.

Construction crews began construction on the Mid Rivers Mall Drive/Interstate 70 interchange on Monday. Over the next several months, several significant changes will take place in efforts to improve traffic.
Construction on the diverging diamond intersection upgrade at Interstate 70 and Mid Rivers Mall Drive started Monday in St. Peters and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31. Crews will build a diverging diamond interchange and add an additional lane to westbound Interstate 70. The $13 million project is being paid for with federal, regional and local money. This week, crews will build a temporary slip ramp from westbound Interstate 70 to the North Outer Road, which will go to one-way traffic between the slip ramp and Mid Rivers Mall Drive. Starting the week of March 18, the loop ramps will be closed, which means drivers exiting from westbound I-70 to Mid Rivers Mall will have to use the slip ramp. A plan two years in the making to alleviate congestion at Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Interstate 70 should begin work as soon as next month. Thursday afternoon the Missouri Department of Transportation hosted an open house at St. Peters City Hall to introduce the public to plans to reconfigured the heavily-trafficked interchange. Plans for a new diverging diamond interchange were unveiled and explained to the public in attendance. "This is just another old interchange that needed to be updated to handle the volume of traffic it's trying to handle," said Russ Batzel, the public works service manager for St. Peters.
