Circle K Needs Approval Before It Can Rebuild

Following January's fire the gas station applied for a special use permit needed to re-open. The Board of Aldermen will vote on the permit during Thursday's meeting.

All that stands between a new roof for Circle K is the St. Peters Board of Aldermen. The convenience store at the intersection of Spencer Road and Mexico Road has just one more hurdle to clear before it can rebuild following January's fire. Circle K sustained such significant damage in the blaze that the city required the store to apply for a special use permit and meet zoning standards that were put in place after the store originally opened.  So far the path toward re-opening has gone smoothly. The lone hiccup in the process has been a question about a white wall during the April 3 meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Circle K Plans to Reopen Fire-Gutted Gas Station

Julie Powers, St. Peters director of planning, community and economic development, says the city has met with architects to go over plans.

Circle K plans to reopen its gas station at 6105 Mexico Road after a fire destroyed the St. Peters station on Jan. 14. The fire started in a stock room in the back of the store after a furnace, which hung from the ceiling, heated up some combustible materials that had been stacked up very close to the heater.  "What happened was the day was very cold so it ran for a long time," Central County Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Steve Brown. "It set the box of cups on fire."  The unintentional fire destroyed the building. Brown said the fire was one of the larger commercial fires to which Central County has responded.  No one was injured in the fire. Brown said despite the extreme cold and freezing water, no firefighters were injured …

Cleanup Begins at Circle K Convenience Store After Fire

Crews were out early Tuesday morning cleaning up after the fire destroyed the St. Peters gas station store.

The morning after a massive fire at the Circle K in St. Peters, cleanup crews were at the scene picking up the damage. A fire that Central County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Steve Brown said may have started in a storage closet broke out Monday afternoon. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours battling the blaze.  Just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday the sound of a chain saw could be heard as crews began picking up and cleaning out the debris. A pile of rubble—notably the front mansard that displayed the Circle K logo—sat in front of the store as crews were working inside and out to pick up the mess.  "It's a total loss at this time," Brown said about the state of the building.
