Wild Lights at the St. Louis Zoo Offers Penguins, Polar Bears, Prairie Dogs and More

The annual holiday lights display features 500,000 sparkling lights, plus storytellers and live musical performances on select nights.

Polar bears, penguins, prairie dogs and flamingos will all be dressed in their holiday finest and lighting up the night to greet visitors at the annual U.S. Banks Wild Lights holiday light show at the St. Louis Zoo. "It’s really beautiful," said Michael Macek, curator of birds at the zoo. "It’s grown every year that I’ve been here, and I’ve been here 20 years. Every single year they add more. It’s actually quite nice, because it’s so cold and dark, it’s nice to see the zoo lit up." Wild Lights is open 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 11. Winter Wonderland on Ice Coming to Rec-Plex

Annual figure skating show will take place Dec. 9 and Dec. 9 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.

Figure skaters will be hitting the ice at the St. Peters Rec-Plex for the annual Winter Wonderland on Ice show. Skaters from the Rec-Plex's ice skating school will perform holiday songs on the Rec-Plex ice. The show will have solo skating, synchronized skating and formation teams. Skaters of all skill levels will be hitting the ice for the show. Frosty the Snowman, and potentially Santa, will make an appearance.  The shows will be in main ice rink in the original Rec-Plex building. The show will have two performances. St. Peters Kicks Off Holiday Season

City hosts tree lighting to start the season.

The city of St. Peters kicked off the holiday season on Friday night with the 22nd annual tree lighting ceremony.  A crowd packed into the Cultural Arts Centre at St. Peters City Hall for a night of holiday music and lights. The Fort Zumwalt East orchestra kicked things off with some holiday tunes.  After that, the St. Peters Performing Arts Music Studio gave a teaser presentation of it's "'Glee'ful Holiday Celebration" show. The St. Peters Choral Society also sang a few songs to the packed house.  Lindenwood's Vocals Only sang more songs and finally the tree in front of City Hall was lit kicking off the 2011 holiday season.
