Incumbents Reign Supreme: St. Peters Mayor, Aldermen Retain Seats

St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano and all four Aldermen won re-election on Tuesday.

For the second straight year the St. Peters Board of Aldermen will remain unchanged after the Municipal Election.  Voters in St. Peters hit the polls on Tuesday for the annual Municipal Election. All of the incumbents, including St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano, retained their seats—John "Rocky" Reitmeyer (Ward 1), Jerry Hollingsworth (Ward 2), Tommy Roberts (Ward 3) and Patrick Barclay (Ward 4) earned another four years on the Board.  Roberts won the tightest race of the day in Ward 3. In a three-way battle for one seat, the current Board President pulled off a narrow victory over Terri Violet. "It feels great to know that residents of Ward 3 appreciate the work I've done for the past four years," Roberts said.  It was the second year in a row…

Menards Hopes to Open Store in St. Peters In Spring 2013

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the national hardware store's site plan during Wednesday's meeting, paving the way for the store to come to St. Peters.

Right now the nearest Menards store is 80-plus miles away from St. Peters residents. In a year, that will likely change. The national hardware chain, which has more than 250 stores, is attempting to crack the St. Louis area with a few stores planned in the region. One of those stores is in St. Peters. Menards said that if all goes to plan, the St. Peters location could be the first in the region to open. So far, so good.  Menards presented a site plan to St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday night during the Commission's March meeting. After making a few minor changes, the Commission approved the site plan. The next step for Menards is bidding out the construction work and starting construction. Menards said construction …

Election 2012

Candidate Filing Closes in St. Peters

Mayor Len Pagano and aldermen Jerry Hollingsworth and Patrick Barclay will be running unopposed in the 2012 General Election.

As the clock ticked past 5 p.m. in St. Peters the filing period for the 2012 General Election in April is now closed.  The St. Peters Board of Aldermen will certify the results at 5 p.m. Thursday after a return from a long recess, but with filing closed the candidates are pretty much set in stone. The result is only two of the five races will be contested. The election will take place April 3, 2012, with the following field of candidates: In Ward 1 incumbent Rocky Reitmeyer will be facing off against Dolores Sherman. Sherman tried for the Ward 1 spot last spring, but came up short in a race against eventual winner Dave Thomas and John Scherr. Sherman picked up just 55 votes and placed third in the race. The biggest race of 2012 looks to be…

St. Peters Aldermen Scheduled for First Meeting of 2012

Board of Aldermen work session begins at 5 p.m. and meeting begins at 7 p.m.

A little snow shouldn't keep the St. Peters Board of Aldermen from meeting for the first time in 2012.  After nearly a month away from the Justice Center, the Board returns for the first meeting of January, and the first time in 2012. The Board will kick things off with a 5 p.m. work session. At 7 p.m. the actual meeting will begin. The work session will have two items of old business to discuss. The first item is an update to the utility bills and meals on wheels program. The other item is a change to the city code relating to peddlers and solicitors.  Other items on the work session site include:  The meeting agenda, at least the voting portion will be brief. The Board will vote on three things—two bills and a resolution. The Board will …

Planning and Zoning Approves CVS Site Plan

New pharmacy gets a go-ahead from the St. Peters Commission.

A month ago the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission had issues with the proposed site plan for the new CVS Pharmacy at the Golden Triangle strip mall location.  Worried about traffic flow—the Commission was concerned that drivers trying to make a left turn onto southbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive would be facing long odds getting on the road. With the concern, the Commission asked CVS to conduct a traffic study to see if the site plan would be better off with only right-in/right-out access.  CVS agreed to do the traffic study and came back for the first Commission meeting of 2012. During its presentation, CVS said the study found no problems with the left-turn access. CVS said that the current strip mall has four entrance/exit points …

Election 2012

Candidate Filing Still Underway in St. Peters

Filing for the 2012 April General Election ends Jan. 17.

St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano may not have to do much campaigning in his bid for re-election. Three weeks after the filing period opened, and just two weeks before the period closes, Pagano is currently running unopposed. Early on, he's not the only one. Filing for the April 2012 General Election began on Dec. 12, 2011, and so far three of the five races have just one candidate. As of 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 3, the following people have filed for office. With two weeks still left to go before filing closes, the races could still change.  Roberts, the current Board president, said in December he fully intends to run for re-election, but didn't throw his hat into the ring until Tuesday afternoon.  With Roberts filing, the Ward 3 race is shaping up …

Ehlmann Road Connection To Ease Access to Truman, Mid-Rivers Areas

Road connection will provide traffic relief on Interstate 70, major arterial roads for residents north of I-70. St. Peters aldermen also approve CarMax Auto Superstore, tents for I-70 Shoppers Fair during Thursday meeting.

The missing 900-foot section of Ehlmann Road between Shady Springs and Executive Centre Parkway should be completed this summer, Public Works Services Manager Russ Batzel told St. Peters aldermen Thursday. “It’s a critical piece for additional traffic circulation in St. Peters,” Batzel said. “Residents won’t be forced to get on I-70 or other main roads to get to Truman Boulevard. It’s a good reliever route.” Batzel said the project would be bid out in the spring. Construction would begin and be completed this summer. The $1.3 million project is funded 80 percent through the St. Charles County Road Fund with a 20 percent match by the City of St. Peters. Batzel also told St. Peters aldermen the railroad crossing project on Executive Center …

Election 2012

Updated: General Election Filings Begin Tuesday

St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano and four aldermanic seats will be up for grabs in the upcoming April 2012 General Election.

Filing season for the 2012 General Election kicks off Tuesday morning. Starting at 8 a.m. applicants can file for office for the April 3, 2012, election. St. Peters will have five races open for potential candidates. Mayor Len Pagano and the four men to his left during St. Peters Board of Aldermen meetings at the Justice Center are up for re-election. All five races are for four-year terms. Pagano will most certainly be filing tomorrow morning. Back in July, Pagano announced his intentions to run for another term as St. Peters mayor. Pagano was a Ward 3 alderman from 1983-2007. He took over as mayor in 2007 and was elected to his first four-year term in 2008.  When Pagano announced his intentions to run again, he did so in tandem with …

CVS Pharmacy Site Plan Approval Delayed at Planning and Zoning Meeting

Proposed entrance/exit a new pharmacy will need a traffic study before St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission can approve the site plan.

The final meeting of 2011 for the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission was short on agenda items, but long on discussion.  For nearly three hours the Commission tackled topics for the last time in 2011. The Commission resolved several issues, but one big one issue will have to be figured out in 2012.  CVS Pharmacy unveiled its site plans for a proposed location at the Golden Triangle Shopping Centre location near the intersection of Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Mexico. While the Commission expressed the usual concern—more brick—another issue sprouted up led by Alderman Jerry Hollingsworth.  Hollingsworth was troubled by a proposed exit at the north end of the site plan. Instead of a right in, right out, the plans called for a full use …
