Ron Paul-Supporter Sues St. Peters Following Caucus Arrest

Brent Stafford has filed a lawsuit against the city of St. Peters following his 2012 arrest at the St. Charles County Caucus.

Moments after being acquitted of trespassing, Brent Stafford's lawyer said his client may file a lawsuit against the city of St. Peters.  Now, more than nine months after St. Peters Municipal Judge Donald Kohl acquitted Stafford, the Ron Paul-supporter filed suit against the city and a police officer in federal court on Monday. Stafford is claiming false arrest, malicious prosecution and the violation of his Constitutional rights, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Stafford, 45, of O'Fallon, was arrested after things got out of control at a March 2012 St. Charles County GOP caucus. After a rules disagreement, St. Peters Police attempted to clear Francis Howell North High School and close the caucus. Stafford remained in the parking …

Why distinguish Ron Paulists from the rest of the GOP? They're one and the same. St. Charles County Republicans couldn't buy this kind of PR; a gift that keeps on giving. BTW, stealing political signs is a federal electioneering crime.......if you can prove it. Was the caucus meeting called to order? By what right did Mr. Stafford have to convene the meeting? STP police just enabled Stafford to …   more ›

A dispute between a St. Peters Hooters waitress and the restaurant she works at has made national headlines.  Sandra Lupo, 27, is suing Hooters in federal court alleging she was fired from her job after brain surgery left her with a buzz cut and a visible healing scar that made it too painful to wear a wig. Appeals Court Ruling May Spark Westboro Lawsuit Dismissal, County Officials Say

Westboro Baptist Church members filed a lawsuit against St. Charles County over its ordinance banning picketing within 300 feet of funerals.

A U.S. Court of Appeals ruling could lead to dismissal of a Westboro Baptist Church lawsuit against St. Charles County, officials said. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit overturned a lower court’s ruling against a City of Manchester ordinance that protects the rights of funeral attendees “to mourn in peace and privacy for a limited time in a limited space.” The court concluded “that Manchester has shown a significant government interest in protecting the peace and privacy of funeral attendees for a short time in limited space.” “This is a great, common-sense decision,” said St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann in a news release. “We’re confident it lays the groundwork for the case against St. Charles County to be …

Stafford Feels Vindicated, But May File Suit for Caucus Arrrest

His attorney says, "This issue has not been finally resolved" moments after the county Republican Central Committee member beat a trespassing charge.

After being acquitted of trespassing charges at the March 17 St. Charles County Republican Caucus, Brent Stafford said he felt vindicated, but sorry he had to go through the trial to begin with. “It was not my actions that put me in this position,” said Stafford, a St. Charles County Republican Committee member. “It was the actions of Eugene Dokes and Bryan Spencer that put me in this position. They didn’t follow the rules.” Stafford blames Dokes, St. Charles County Republican Central Committee chairman, and Spencer, a former committee member, with trying to control the caucus’ outcome and prevent a large group of Ron Paul supporters from controlling the meeting. Dokes had said he was trying to be fair to all those who came to the caucus …

Cell Tower Decision Likely Will Land St. Charles County in Court

Tower in Defiance Area Would Ruin Landscape, the Area's biggest asset, council member says

St. Charles County and St. Charles Tower took another step towards the courtroom Monday. The county provided its legal reasons for turning down the company’s proposal to erect a cell tower near Walnut Creek Trail in the Defiance area during the county council’s meeting Monday. The county council turned down the proposal for the tower during its January meeting. County Councilman Joe Brazil, R-District 1, of Defiance, said that the council has not approved any cell tower in the Defiance area since he has been on the council. Brazil said he has voted no on every such cell tower proposal. “It’s infringing on the beauty of the area,” Brazil said after the meeting. “That’s the area’s biggest asset. That’s why people go there. Nobody wants to …
