Code of Conduct Reviews Sparks Debate

The Francis Howell Board of Education's discussion of a revised code of conduct for the next school year was met with back and forth debate from Board members and administration.

A first reading of the proposed Code of Conduct for the 2011-12 school year was the main topic of conversation at Thursday's Francis Howell Board of Education meeting. Parent Tom Klein got the ball rolling during the patron comments section of the night. Klein was concerned about the length and content of the proposed Code. He said he had problems with the COC focusing on such a small part of the student population, those who get in trouble often. Klein also said that the COC was too specific. Klein said the United States Constitution is just six pages, while the tax code is significantly longer. “Which one has more loopholes?” he said. Francis Howell BOE Meeting Set for Tonight

Board of Education meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the district administrative offices.

The cost of school lunches for Francis Howell students may be going up. The Francis Howell Board of Education is set to meet at 7 p.m. tonight, May 19, at the administration offices. On the agenda for the meeting is an item that would raise prices of school lunches district wide.  From the agenda: "Effective July 1, 2011, section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (the “Act”) requires school food authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program to provide the same level of support for lunches served to students who are not eligible for free or reduced price lunches (i.e., paid lunches) as they are for lunches served to students eligible for free lunches." Joint Work Session On Schedule for Monday Night

The St. Peters Board of Alderman, Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment set to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday

St. Peters Alderman Patrick Barclay is going to have a busy week. Barclay, a representative for Ward 4, serves as the Board's representative on the planning and zoning commission. Tonight, Monday, at City Hall the Board and Planning and Zoning will meet up with the Board of Adjustment for a joint work session. The bi-annual meeting is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Cultural Arts Centre Activity Room A.  The joint work session is open to the public, but will not be televised. The three groups are meeting to discuss topics relating to zoning, planning, and building codes. A full agenda for the meeting can be found here.  The Planning and Zoning Commission will be back in action on Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting. …
