Menards opening celebration continues on Wednesday with former Cardinal fan favorite. Former St. Louis Cardinal David Eckstein will be signing autographs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the St. Peters store as part of the grand opening events. Eckstein, a shortstop, was a member of the 2006 World Series Cardinals team and was named the MVP of the series. He also was a world champion in 2002 while playing the the Anaheim Angels. He was first team All-American in 1996 at the University of Florida before his Major League Baseball career. Also appearing at the store will be Paul Menard’s 2011 Indy Brickyard winning No. 27 car and Matt Crafton’s No. 88 Truck. The cars will be on site from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 24 and April 25. …

When Menards first came to St. Peters to begin the process of opening a store, the store targeted a spring 2013 opening. Menards made it official that the store would open on time. The new hardware store on Spencer Road is set to open bright and early at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9. Menards will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday to Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The St. Peters store is the first Menards store to open on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River in the St. Louis area. The other store in the region, in O'Fallon, Ill., will open the same day. St. Peters' Menards is expected to open sometime this spring, but a grand opening date has not yet been released.
Menards in St. Peters has completed the initial hiring for its store, but has yet to announce its grand opening date, a company spokesman said. Menards representatives initially told St. Peters that the store would add 150 to 200 new jobs in the area. Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott said the store managers have completed their initial hiring but are still accepting applications in-store or online at www.menards.com. Menards will soon be accepting applications for its new St. Peters stores. Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott said the store, which is still under construction will begin the hiring process in February. Abbot said in an email that the St. Peters location will being the process on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. Interested applicants may apply at the store between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. The home-improvement chain recently withdrew plans to build a new store on the Lake Saint Louis-O'Fallon border citing President Barack Obama's policies.
The Suburban Journals reported Monday that a Menard's spokesman has blamed President Obama and his administration for Menard's decision to pull the plug on plans to build a new store on Hwy. N south of I-64. Meanwhile the St. Peters store remains on pace to open next year. The development would have straddled the O'Fallon-Lake Saint Louis border, with the Menard's store itself in O'Fallon, but part of the parking lot and outlot businesses in Lake Saint Louis. Their prices only seem lower because everything has a mail in rebate and they advertise the price after the rebate discount. Who's going to mail in multiple rebates on every shopping trip?
