Former St. Peters Resident Locked Up For 4 Lifetimes

Christopher Vaughn got separate life sentences for the murders his wife and three children.

Right before a Will County judge dropped four life sentences on Christopher Vaughn, his grief-stricken mother-in-law wondered aloud why he couldn't have abandoned his wife and three children instead of killing them all. "What a coward," said Susan Phillips, the mother of Vaughn's slain wife, Kimberly Vaughn. "If you do not want your family, divorce is always the first option, or even just walking away," Phillips said from the witness stand during Christopher Vaughn's sentencing hearing Tuesday morning. Christopher Vaughn, 38, wanted to shed his family so he could start a new life in the Yukon wilderness with an unwitting stripper. In June 2007, Vaughn, a former St. Peters resident and graduate of Francis Howell High School, packed his 34-…

Life in Prison for Man Convicted of 2007 Murder of St. Peters Man

Paul White, along with accomplice Cleo S. Hines, planned a robbery that took the life of Robert Eidman, a St. Peters resident. On Monday, White was sentenced to life in prison.

Paul White, formerly of St. Charles, was given a life sentence without parole on Monday for the 2007 murder of 48-year-old insurance agent Robert Eidman, a St. Peters resident and insurance salesman in St. Charles. White received another life sentence for a second count of robbery. The sentences will run consecutively. In early June 2007, White, broke after a gambling loss of $1,200, planned to rob Eidman when he recalled that Eidman, who was his wife's insurance agent, took cash payments. Although White's roommate, Cleo Hines, pulled the trigger, White planned the crime and provided the gun, prosecutors said. The case was unsolved for more than three years when DNA evidence finally connected White, incarcerated for another crime, to the …

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Amy Freeman Burton, 37, and her 13-year-old daughter Ainsley Freeman, a former student at Fort Zumwalt South Middle School were found shot to death in their San Francisco area home Monday.  According to the Danville, CA Patch, Burton's husband, Christopher Burton, reportedly found the victims and called police. Investigators said Burton is not a suspect, but he is a "person of interest" as they try to determine if this is a double murder or a murder-suicide.
