For Sale: Aldermen Opt to Save Old City Hall

St. Peters aldermen decide against demolishing the Old City Hall in Old Town St. Peters.

The St. Peters Board of Aldermen spared the Old City Hall from turning into a parking lot on Thursday night. For now, at least.  With the building at 107 Main Street vacant, St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano asked the board to make a decision on the future of the building. Faced with two options—to demolish or sell—the board chose to put the building on the market and see if anyone wants to buy.  Aldermen Jerry Hollingsworth, Ward 2, was in favor of putting the building up for sale. "It's worth taking a shot," he said.  Hollingsworth said that a demolition would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $10,000. Old St. Peters City Hall May Be Demolished or Sold

The St. Peters Board of Aldermen will discuss the future of the old building during Thursday's work session.

The Old City Hall in Old Town St. Peters could soon become a new parking lot.  The building at 107 Main Street hasn't been used as city hall by the city since the 60s. The city had been letting the St. Peters Jaycees lease the building, but that group has since disbanded because of declining membership. Finding another group to lease the building isn't in the cards because the poor condition of the building.  At this point, with the Jaycee's lease expiring on March 1, Old City Hall will be vacant and Mayor Len Pagano wants to do something with the building. During Thursday's work session the Board of Aldermen will begin discussions on the fate of the building and right now there are three options, one of which has likely already been ruled…
