Julie Powers, St. Peters director of planning, community and economic development, says the city has met with architects to go over plans.
Circle K plans to reopen its gas station at 6105 Mexico Road after a fire destroyed the St. Peters station on Jan. 14. The fire started in a stock room in the back of the store after a furnace, which hung from the ceiling, heated up some combustible materials that had been stacked up very close to the heater. "What happened was the day was very cold so it ran for a long time," Central County Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Steve Brown. "It set the box of cups on fire." The unintentional fire destroyed the building. Brown said the fire was one of the larger commercial fires to which Central County has responded. No one was injured in the fire. Brown said despite the extreme cold and freezing water, no firefighters were injured …

Pandora Ink is once again trying to open a tattoo shop in the Dollar Tree Plaza in St. Peters.
Pandora Ink just won't take no for an answer, especially if the no wasn't clear in the first place. The tattoo company was back at the Justice Center for the third time in less than six months and it's second time in front of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Just like in August, Pandora Ink was seeking an amendment to a Planned Urban Development (PUD) to permit a tattoo establishment to be located at on the north side of Mexico Road, east side of Grand Teton Drive in the Dollar Tree Plaza. And, just like in August, the commission recommended approval of the amendment to the Board of Aldermen. Now comes the hard part for Pandora Ink—gaining board approval. Last August the board voted down the proposed amendment change, despite only …

A St. Peters resident requested to have a house rezoned as office industrial so she could move her real estate brokerage there, but the commission voted against the rezoning request.
St. Peters resident Michelle Walker was hoping to move her brokerage firm, STL Buy & Sell, into a house she purchased at 2323 Muegge Road, but the St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission in December turned down her request to have the property rezoned. Walker, who lives near the property, said she wanted to change as little as possible to the house. She said she'd like to add parking in between the house and detached garage. The house is currently zoned residential, which means it could not be used as a stand-alone office unless it was rezoned. City planner Jason Jaggi recommended against the request for rezoning, in part because it could be considered a spot rezoning, and also because it could establish a precedence for non-…

Two proposed tattoo shops in St. Peters were approved by the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission during the August meeting.
St. Peters’ August meeting of the Planning and Zoning committee was heavy on the tattoo ink. Two of the items on the agenda for the Aug. 1 meeting dealt with new tattoo shops wanting to open up in St. Peters. The commission welcomed both. First up was Robert Bayer, who requested a special use permit to open up a shop located on the west side of Spencer Road, north side of Executive Centre Parkway more commonly known as 94 Spencer Road. The store will be near the Costco and the future Menards. Bayer explained that his business would be open from noon until 9 p.m. at the latest. During the review, it was mentioned that his request wouldn't allow him to pierce ears or sell earrings. The commissions thought about amending the request to …

The St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
The Fourth of July holiday pushed back the monthly meeting of the St. Peters Planning and Zoning by one week. Now that the holiday has come and gone, the Commission is set to hit the chambers at the St. Peters Justice Center to tackle July's agenda. Like most Planning and Zoning meetings, the agenda leans heavily toward home occupation permit requests. Nine applications were submitted to city staff for the permits. The businesses range from online book sales to construction. The nine business are: In addition to tackling the home occupation requests, the commission will have a public hearing related to a request to change zoning. Thomas M. Wednesday's meeting of the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission saw seven home occupations also approved.
A new bar is closer to opening in Old Town St. Peters after Wednesday's Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Kenneth Farwell applied for a special use permit to open a bar located on the south side of Main Street, west of Church Street, more commonly known as 100 Main Street. Farwell intends to open a bar, called Da Elite, which caters to emergency personnel. A fire department captain in the St. Louis area, Farwell said he wanted to open an establishment for EMTs, fire fighters and police. He hopes the bar and grill provides relaxed area for the professionals. The bar, which would join three others in the Old Town area, was met with some objections. Mike Roos, owner of neighboring Mike's Bait, Tackle & Archery , was concerned with …

For the third straight month the hardware store will be making an appearance at the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission meeting to discuss the proposed St. Peters store.
The year of Menards continues Wednesday at the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission's May Meeting. For the third time in five months the national hardware store will be back in the chambers at the St. Peters Justice Center. After two meetings to review the site plan for the proposed St. Peters stores, Menards will be back for meeting No. 3 as the commission meets in May. Wednesday's visit will deal with a record plat. Menards will be trying to get the Commission to approve a resubdivision of Mexico Road Syndicate Subdivision Lot 2. The record plat is just another step the hardware store can take before opening up shop at the intersection of Mexico and Spencer Roads just north of the McDonald's. Menards said during it's first trip to …

February's Planning and Zoning Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission will kick off February with a shortened meeting. The second meeting of 2012 features just five action items for the Commission. Four home occupation permits are up for approval and one public hearing is on the agenda for the meeting. Based on the speed the Commission normally operates, the meeting could be finished before patrons even get comfortable in their seats at the Justice Center. The four home occupation requests are: Once the Commission tackles the home occupations, it will move forward to the lone public hearing. Life Changing Home Health & Adult Day Care, Inc. is requesting a special use permit for an adult day-care facility in the C-3 General Commercial District. The proposed …

New pharmacy gets a go-ahead from the St. Peters Commission.
A month ago the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission had issues with the proposed site plan for the new CVS Pharmacy at the Golden Triangle strip mall location. Worried about traffic flow—the Commission was concerned that drivers trying to make a left turn onto southbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive would be facing long odds getting on the road. With the concern, the Commission asked CVS to conduct a traffic study to see if the site plan would be better off with only right-in/right-out access. CVS agreed to do the traffic study and came back for the first Commission meeting of 2012. During its presentation, CVS said the study found no problems with the left-turn access. CVS said that the current strip mall has four entrance/exit points …
