Francis Howell Central Alum Helps Defeat Lindenwood

Sharese Jones, a player for MSSU scores 10 in their win at Lindenwood

The Lindenwood Lions had a home game Thursday night against Missouri Southern State University, MSSU.  However, many in attendance were there to support the visiting Missouri Southern Lions, at least one player in particular.  Sharese Jones, who graduated last May from nearby Francis Howell Central High School, is a member of Missouri Southern, and her supporters were not disappointed as Jones had 10 points, and Missouri Southern downed Lindenwood 78-74 at the Hyland Arena.  Despite the difference in records, it was a close game throughout, not decided until the last minute. In fact, Jones hit a couple of key free throws with just 12.8 seconds remaining on the clock to help seal the MSSU victory.  Jones said that her teammates deserve a …

Sharese Jones Ends Successful Career on a High Note

Francis Howell Central Sharese Jones won the "Patch" fan's choice for GAC player of the year.

Francis Howell Central senior Sharese Jones chose to specialize in basketball during her four year career as a Spartan.   And her decision has paid off in spades.  Jones, a guard and forward, started her varsity career as a freshman and earned all-conference honors her sophomore, junior, and senior years. In the 2011-2012 season she was one of the top scorers in the St. Louis area, as she averaged 20.4 points per game and finished the season with 613 points. Recently she was named the fan's choice for GAC player of the year. Howell Central finished the season with a 20-10 mark.  “We progressed as the season went along,” Jones said. “We came out strong, struggled in the middle, and picked it back up in the end.”  Central strung together a …

Also, while the poll is available across the five St. Charles County Patch websites, we decided that the winner's story, if we had one, would go in the home Patch site. St. …   more ›

Fort Zumwalt West Wins Quarterfinal Thriller Over Howell Central, Advances To Class 5 Final Four

Central's Sharese Jones drops 37 points, but it wasn't enough, as Lady Spartans fall in overtime.

ST. LOUIS—When Fort Zumwalt West girls basketball coach Monica Tritz walked into the University of Missouri-St. Louis' Mark Twain Gymnasium for a MSHSAA Class 5 state tournament quarterfinal game, she knew that it could be for the last time in her illustrious career as leader of the Lady Jaguars girls hoops program. Earlier in the year Tritz announced she would be retiring at the end of the season she could spend more time with her family. Her retirement is going to have to wait for two more games, as Tritz and her Lady Jags survived a major scare on Saturday, but eventually held off Francis Howell Central for a 51-45 overtime win that will send West to the Class 5 Final Four for the first time since 2010. "I'm so excited that I'm going to…
