St. Charles County Fair Opens 5-Day Run

The fair, located in Wentzville's Rotary Park, has taken extra precautions for the triple-digit temperatures expected this week.

The St. Charles County Fair opens today, Tues., July 24 at Wentzville's Rotary Park, and runs for the next five days. With temperatures expected to hit 105 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday and then to hover just below that through the weekend, fair organizers have taken some extra precautions for this year's event. Ed Siesenop, fair board president, told Patch that misters have been set up, and a cooling tent and an air-conditioned trailer are available for overheated patrons to take a break from the brutal temperatures. Extra paramedics will be on site, and fair staff have been advised about identifying symptoms of heat exhaustion. This is the year's biggest event for 4-Hers. Blue-Ribbon Babies at the County Fair

Saturday morning's baby contest at the St. Charles County Fair drew a huge crowd to Rotary Park. 92 babies were entered in the event. The contest was open to residents of St. Charles County. Babies were required to wear a white onesie or white t-shirt and diaper only, and were judged on a 1-5 scale for personality, alertness and cuteness. The event offered four divisions: An additional division for twins was canceled for lack of entries. The event was sponsored by Goddard School and hosted by Rose Lambi. "Every child gets a ribbon," Lambi said. "Every child in this event is a winner." Mayor Paul Lambi was one of the judges. All good things must come to an end, and today marks the final day of the 2011 St. Charles County Fair.  The fair opens at 9 a.m. and ends at 11:30 p.m. It is held in Rotary Park in Wentzville. The last day of fun starts early with the baby contest and rooster crowing contest slated for 9 a.m. The demolition derby is the big event of the night.
