Athlete of the Week: Howell's Stephens Tops Fan Vote for GAC Soccer Star

Francis Howell's Jordan Stephens wins the fan's choice award.

The votes are in the choice has been made: Jordan Stephens is the fan's choice for top soccer player in the GAC.  Let's see how the voting went down.  Who was the top GAC boys soccer player in 2012? Stephens was the top point getter in all of the GAC. Stephens was led the GAC South, all of the GAC with his 67 points. The majority of his points came from his 26 goals—best in the GAC. He also chipped in 15 assists for the Vikings.  *** Patch wants to thank everyone who voted. The 2012 boys soccer season is in the books for all the Gateway Athletic Conference teams, but it's time to take a look back. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season.  Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC boys soccer player in 2012? Jordan Stephens—Francis Howell: Francis Howell's Jordan Stephens was the top point getter in all of the GAC. Stephens was led the GAC South, all of the GAC with his 67 points. Athlete of the Week: Lutheran's Bryce Jefferson Honored for Big Game

Voters were impressed by Jefferson's four touchdown game for the Cougars.

In a losing effort, Bryce Jefferson couldn't be stopped. The Lutheran High School sophomore scored not one, not two, not even three—four touchdowns in Week 6. It was an impressive week, for Jefferson, enough so to help him win the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award. Out of the 100 votes cast, Jefferson beat out Holt's Mark Cushing by just six votes to earn the crown.  Here's how the voting broke down: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 6? Although Lutheran fell short against Trinity, sophomore Jefferson had a big game for the Cougars. In the 45-40 loss against Trinity, Jefferson accumulated four touchdowns—one on the ground, two receiving and one on a kickoff return. Jefferson picked up 68 yards on …

It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll.  This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 6? Matt Etherton—Fort Zumwalt East: The Lions are 5-1 and got win No. 5 in a big win against rival Zumwalt South. The quarterback-receiver combo of Shane Barrett and Matt Etherton had a big game. Etherton had just four catches, but he made them count en route to 105 yards receiving. Athlete of the Week: Taylor Wade Named GAC Player of the Year

Fort Zumwalt South's Taylor Wade wins fan's choice award.

Taylor Wade is not just a goal scorer. Sure the Zumwalt South star can score—she scored 17 goals this season—but she can also be a playmaker. She led the GAC with 19 assists and was second in the conference in total points. Her offensive output was enough to garner the attention of fans across the GAC. Wade's showing was good enough to get her the crown of Patch's fan's choice poll for GAC soccer player of the year. Here's how the voting broke down: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Wade was part of a strong offensive attack from Zumwalt South. The Bulldogs compiled an 18-9-0 mark this year and scored 70 goals. An impressive 17 came off the foot of Wade. Her goal output, third in the GAC North, was just part of …

All across St. Charles County fans got to witness great performances from girls soccer players. Here's what we're looking for: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Here are the nominees:  Lydia Meeks—St. Charles High School: The Pirates' Lydia Meeks was a top-5 offensive threat in the GAC North this season. The St. Charles High School student finished in the top-5 in points, goals and assists. Meeks netted 14 goals and picked up 12 helpers for the Pirates. Her 40 points were fifth in the conference, but her goals and assists both put her in a tie for fourth. She also added two game-winning goals for St. Charles.  Samantha Fennessey and Mackenzie Crawford—Fort Zumwalt West: The Zumwalt West soccer team went 21-5-1 …

Athlete of the Week: Duchesne's Abby Smegner Picks Up Award

Duchesne's Abby Smegner wins the Athlete of the Week award after a strong showing at the District track meet.

Duchesne's Abby Smegner had quite the showing at the Class 3, District 4 meet. Smegner paced the field in the 800 with her first-place time of 2:20.8 to win the District title. Her winning ways didn't stop on the track. Smegner was able to take the field in the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week voting. Smegner racked up 38 percent of the votes to win the award.  Who had the best showing during District track weekend? Total votes: 26 The Duchesne girls track team thrived in the longer-distance races during Saturday's Class 3, District 4 meet. The Pioneer girls won both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays. The other race win came in the 800-meter run via Abby Smegner. The Duchesne runner topped the field in the 800 with her first-…

Athlete of the Week: St. Charles's Ellen Weaver Brings Home the Prize

St. Charles Pirate Ellen Weaver's big week earns her the fan's choice for Athlete of the Week.

It appears the voters in St. Charles County are impressed by offense.  Last week St. Charles High School's Ellen Weaver put on an offensive clinic for the Pirates. In two games she potted five goals and tallied two assists on the soccer pitch. It's a pretty big understatement to say that's pretty good.  Weaver's impressive week caught the eye, and the votes, around St. Charles County. The Pirate picked up 72 percent of the vote to take home the St. Charles County soccer player of the week award.
