Pop Art Experience Class for Kids Coming Soon to St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre.

The newest class, Pop Art Drawing and Painting Camp, runs from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10 at the Arts Centre and is for kids ages 4 and up.

The St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre Art Experience Camps are starting again soon with a new class focused on popular culture. The newest class, Pop Art Drawing and Painting Camp, runs from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10 at the Arts Centre. The camp is for kids ages 4 and up. The Pop Art Drawing and Painting class will have kids take pictures from the popular culture of their time and re-create them into a new abstract expressionist piece of art. Examples are often seen in advertising products, product labels and comic books. Art Experience Camp fees and times are as follows: St. Peters Art Experience includes one partial day of activities at the Rec-Plex or playtime in City Centre Park as well as Plein Air (outdoor) painting opportunities. Learn to Draw and Paint Street Scenes with St. Peters Artist Jerry Thomas

Artist Jerry Thomas will teach classes beginning on July 10 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre.

St. Peters artist Jerry Thomas will be teaching a class on how to deal with the streets, specifically how to draw and paint them.  Thomas will teach his “Drawing and Painting Street Scenes” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, running from July 10 to July 31, at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre. The cost of the class will be $104. Sculpture Camp Gives Kids Hands-On Art Experience

St. Peters Art Experience craft camp begins June 25.

The St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre will be hosting Sculpture Camp for crafty kids. The camp, which runs from June 25 to June 29, gives kids a chance to mold clay and spend time on the pottery wheel. Sculpture Camp is open to kids ages 6 and up. Half-day camp for ages 6 to 9 runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp costs $65 for St. Peters residents and $75 for non-residents.  Full-day camp for ages 6 to 9 and 10 and up runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. That camp costs $110 for St. Peters residents and $120 for non-residents.  St. Peters Art Experience Camp full-day campers also take a partial day of activities at the Rec-Plex or playtime in City Centre Park as well as Plein Air (outdoor) painting opportunities. Rec-Plex Spring Triathlon Set for June 17

Registration is underway for the event with early entrants getting a cheaper rate.

It's time, once again, for the St. Peters spring triathlon.  The St. Peters Rec-Plex is hosting its annual triathlon on Sunday, June 17, at 6 a.m. The Rec-Plex Spring Triathlon tests participants with a 500-meter serpentine swim in the Rec-Plex’s Natatorium, a 21-mile bicycle ride , and a 5-mile run through St. Peters parks. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners as well as the top three teams and top individuals in each age group. Bike helmets are required for the biking portion of the event. All participants will receive complimentary food and fruit after the race. A lower rate is available to anyone who registers for the Rec-Plex Spring Triathlon by June 1. The early fee is $53 for individuals and $86 for teams…

St. Peters Art Experience Camps Begin June 4

St. Peters Art Experience Camps at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre will kick off with a drawing and painting from June 4 to  June 8. Kids ages 2 and up will learn to create Expressionism & Impressionism. Impressionist drawing and painting subjects will be ordinary objects painted with active brush strokes, emphasizing depiction of light, movement and a unique point of view. In contrast, expressionist focus is placed on the individual’s emotional view of the people and world around them. Works of expressionism are painted to evoke emotion as opposed to reflecting reality. Registration Underway for Rec-Plex Summer Activities Camps

This week's last chance has an art show accepting submissions and belly dancing classes.

The St. Peters Rec-Plex Summer Activities Camps are beginning May 21. The Activities Camps at the Rec-Plex provide a safe opportunity for kids ages 6 to 12 to spend time the during the summer. Under qualified supervision of personnel, kids will get to make friends, play games, go on field trips and enjoy swimming, diving, ice skating and more at the Rec-Plex. Rec-Plex Activities Camps run for 12 weeks until Aug. 10. Each session lasts one week. Camps will meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Rise and Shine and Sunsetters Camps are available before and after normal camp hours. The Rec-Plex also offers sports camps beginning with soccer and Rink Rats hockey on June 4. St. Peters Kicks Off Holiday Season

City hosts tree lighting to start the season.

The city of St. Peters kicked off the holiday season on Friday night with the 22nd annual tree lighting ceremony.  A crowd packed into the Cultural Arts Centre at St. Peters City Hall for a night of holiday music and lights. The Fort Zumwalt East orchestra kicked things off with some holiday tunes.  After that, the St. Peters Performing Arts Music Studio gave a teaser presentation of it's "'Glee'ful Holiday Celebration" show. The St. Peters Choral Society also sang a few songs to the packed house.  Lindenwood's Vocals Only sang more songs and finally the tree in front of City Hall was lit kicking off the 2011 holiday season.

Fencing Camp Opens July 19

Fencing 101 will start July at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre.

Fencing camp will be coming to the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre. Interested fencers will have a chance to take part on two fencing classes this summer at the Arts Center. Kids ages 10- to 16-years-old are eligible to particpate in Fencing 101, which runs from July 19 to July 23, and Fencing 102, which starts Aug. 8 and ends Aug. 12.   The classes are being offered as part of St. Peters participation in the Let's Move initiative. While at the class, students will learn thes martial art form while learning proper en garde position, stance, defense, attacks and courtesy. Kids are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes to class. Spotlight on St. Peters

Local Artist Offering Classes at Cultural Arts Centre

Local artist Jerry Thomas offers classes at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre in the subject areas of anatomy, landscape, florals and many others. Recently he completed a landscape scene during a painting demonstration.

Area artist Jerry Thomas work is represented around the St. Louis area and on five continents. Thomas is not only an artist, but also an accomplished art instructor who teaches throughout the Metro area.   In fact, St. Peters artist Virginia Lietner gave credit to Thomas for getting her back in front of her easel after she stepped away from it for 50 years.   Thomas has paintings and drawings at major businesses and corporations throughout the St. Louis area, such as Laclede Steel, Anheuser-Busch, The Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, and more artwork placed at many other companies for their advertising and boardrooms.  The painter’s pieces can be seen at Norton's Fine Art and Framing. 'Dial M for Murder' Opens May 13 at Arts Centre

ACT II Community Theater show will be performed on May 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 8:00 p.m. and on May 15 and 22 at 2:00 p.m.

The second ACT II Community Theater show of the season will open Friday, May 13. Curtains will go up for the opening night of "Dial M For Murder" at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Fredereck Knott murder mystery is being directed by Dr. Judy Yordon, Professor Emeritus of Performance Studies at Ball State University. Yordon will have a chance to direct Mayor Len Pagano.
