With many resolutions for the new year involving getting in shape, the St. Peters Rec-Plex is opening the doors on Saturday for the Fitness Fest. The public is invited to try out the Rec-Plex for free during the Fitness Fest. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can try out the state-of-the art equipment in the 8,000-square-foot fitness area, a newly rubberized indoor track, swimming, ice skating, basketball, volleyball and more. Rec-Plex staff will be available to provide a tour of the facility. The NFL playoffs are in full swing and football is in the minds of many at this time of the year. Instead of just thinking about football, St. Peters residents and their friends can hit the field and play some flag football. Registration is underway for the St. Peters Rec-Plex adult Flag Football League. Teams in the league will play eight games—seven regular season and one playoff game—beginning on Jan. 27. The league is for players age 18 and up and game will take place on the field next to the Rec-Plex South. All games will take place between noon and 5 p.m. on Sundays. New Year's Eve is coming and kids can ring in the new year at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Children between the ages of 8- and 13-years-old can swim, dive, ice skate, play basketball and more at the Rec-Plex for the annual New Year's Even Lock-in. The event begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 7 a.m. on New Year's Day. Games at the event will include broomball on the ice, basketball shooting contests and more. The pool has a current channel, waterslide and diving boards. The lock-in will be fully staffed, including lifeguards at the pool. At midnight everyone will ring in the New Year with a balloon drop. St. Peter will host its annual "Winter Wonderland on Ice" show this weekend at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Santa, Frosty and friends will take the ice and skate during the annual program. Two shows are scheduled for the Rec-Plex North ice rink. The first show is Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Show No. 2 is set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tickets are on sale at the St. Peters Rec-Plex, 5200 Mexico Road. Past shows have sold out. Tickets for Rec-Plex pass-holders are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under as well as seniors ages 55 and up. General ticket pricing is $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors. Fitness fans wanting to get in a workout before work will have a chance St. Peters Rec-Plex will be opening earlier. Starting on Oct. 1 the doors of the Rec-Plex will open at 5 a.m. allowing access to the weight and cardio rooms, running track, gymnasium and adult lap swimming. The new time is for Monday to Friday. The change bumps the opening up by a half hour. These same areas open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, which is one hour earlier for the fitness rooms, indoor track and gym, and two hours earlier for adult lap swimming.
