Man Who Confessed to Stealing Chalice was Parish Member

Police said the Sts. Joachim & Ann member decided to steal the chalice and collection box money after a night of heavy drinking.

The man who turned himself in for stealing a chalice from Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church was charged in St. Charles County Circuit Court Wednesday. Sean McDonald, 20, of the 900 block of Cottontail in St. Charles County, faces charges of second-degree burglary and theft. McDonald told St. Peters Police that he entered Sts. Joachim and Ann Church at 4112 McClay Road June 16 and stole cash from the collection boxes, a gold-plated over silver chalice and a set of golf clubs from the rectory garage. The chalice is valued at $6,000. McDonald told police he knew the combination to the cabinet where the chalice was kept. Police reported that McDonald is a member of the Sts. Joachim and Ann parish. St. Peters Police: Valuable Chalice Stolen from Sts. Joachim and Ann Church

Police are searching for the suspect involved in taking a chalice valued at $6,000 from Sts. Joachim and Ann Church in St. Peters.

A burglar is being sought by St. Peters Police after a chalice valued at $6,000 went missing from Sts. Joachim and Ann Church in St. Peters. Along with the chalice, a set of golf clubs were mssing from the rectory garage and an unknown amount of money was taken from offering boxes, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  The chalice was described by church officials as a solid silve goblet and covered in gold. The chalice was inscribed with: NOE ANDREAS PHILLIPPS WALDMAN/SACERDOS FACTVS DIE XXIVMAII MMVII St. Peters Police believe the burglary happened between June 13 and June 17. Anyone with information about the stolen chalice is asked to call St. Peters Police Detective David Beckman at 636-278-2244 ext. 3530.
