Athlete of the Week: St. Dominic's Emily Weaver Crowned Winner

The St. Dominic soccer player topped the latest St. Charles County Athlete of the Week poll.

Emily Monroe is the latest St. Charles County Athlete of the Week.  Weaver was part of a potent St. Dominic attack that powered its way into the Final Four of the State tournament. Her offensive exploits didn't go unnoticed. Weaver eked out a one-vote victory to capture the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week crown.  Here's  how the voting went down : Who was the St. Charles County player of the week for the week beginning on May 21? Emily Monroe and the St. Dominic girls soccer team are on quite a run. The Crusaders are in the Final Four of the Class 2 State tournament after back-to-back wins last week. Both wins for St. Dominic came in impressive fashion—on May 22, the Crusaders won 6-0 and on May 26, the girls won 8-1. The offense …

Memorial Day weekend means the spring sports season is just about finished. Track closed up shop this weekend and the field of soccer teams still alive in each class can be counted on one hand. Athlete of the Week: Gerrion Grim Wins Top Prize

Fort Zumwalt South hurler Gerrion Grim named the Patch Athlete of the Week.

Fort Zumwalt South pitcher Gerrion Grim had a good game on the mound and, as a result is the Patch Athlete of the week. While Grim's season ended earlier this week with a loss in sectionals, Grim and the Bulldogs will always have the District tournament. Grim was spectacular and his fans noticed. He won a tight Athlete of the Week contest by just one vote. Here's how the voting went down: Who was the St. Charles County player of the week beginning on May 14?? As the season winds down, the games get bigger. With the games getting bigger, some players crack under the pressure. Others? Well they rise to the occasion. With District action on the soccer and baseball fields across Missouri, these four athletes certainly didn't back down. Here are the nominees for Athlete of the Week for the week of May 14. Gerrion Grim—Fort Zumwalt South: A big reason why the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs are Class 4, District 8 champions is the right arm of Gerrion Grim. Track season is winding down and that means the weekends are getting more and more important. On Saturday, May 12, track athletes from all around Missouri gatherered for District meets.  Runners, jumpers and throwers all took the track to keep the season going. Some did better than others.   So we want to know: What St. Charles County athlete had the best showing during District track weekend? The nominees are: Chase Abbington—Fort Zumwalt South: In the fall, Zumwalt South's Chase Abbington showed he was fast on the football field. This spring he showed he was fast on the track. Abbington became a District champion on Saturday at Parkway Central in the 100-meter dash. The Bulldog junior won by a narrow margin—his time of 11.37 was just a …

Another week is in the books and another week of voting begins. The week we take it back to the soccer pitch and put our focus back against on girls soccer. All across St. Charles County, girls put up big numbers on the field. Here are the top four choicea for Patch's fan vote for Athlete of the Week. So tell us: Who was the St. Charles County girls soccer player of the week beginning on April 30?  Natalie Weinhold—Lutheran High School: The Lutheran Cougars picked up a Archdiocesan Athletic Association win on May 3 against rival Bishop DuBourg. Lutheran scored two first-half goals to pick up a 2-0 win against DuBourg. All the offense the Cougars needed came from the foot of Natalie Weinhold. The Cougars' forward netted both the goals in …

Rain may have washed away a few baseball games last week, but some action still managed to take place—and what action it was.  All across St. Charles County great players played great games on the baseball field. Some did it better than others. Here are the nominees for the baseball player of the week for the week of April 9:  Drew Quinones—Fort Zumwalt South: Fort Zumwalt South's Drew Quinones was a tough guy to retire in the Bulldogs' two games last week. Quinones picked up seven hits in nine at-bats for South—a .778 batting average. In a loss to Holt, Quinones went 2-4 with a run scored. The next day, on Tuesday, against St. Charles West, Quinones helped power the Bulldogs past the Warriors. In a 14-13 South win, Quinones was 5-for-5 …

Another week of the spring sports season is in the books. Which means, another Patch Athlete of the Week contest.  This week, we're asking you Patch readers to decide which girls soccer player around St. Charles County had the best week.  The nominees are:  Taylor Wade—Fort Zumwalt South: Taylor Wade was a monster last week for the Bulldogs. Zumwalt South played four games last week and Wade scored in three them. In those three games, Wade potted an incredible eight goals and tallied four assists. Wade had four goals and three helpers against Ritenour on April 2. On April 5 against Timberland, she scored twice. Finally, on April 7 against Farmington she had two goals and one assist for the Bulldogs.  Alexis Robbers—Orchard Farm: The …

And the Winner is: Timberland's Erica Boyd Claims Athlete of the Week Crown

Timberland's keeper Erica Boyd wins the fan vote for St. Charles County Athlete of the Week.

Patch commenter Matt Futbol was right, goaltenders do win the championships.  In this Athlete of the Week post the goal was to find the fan's choice for the top girls soccer player from the first week of action. Matt commented on the post and said: "goal scoring wins games, goal keeping wins championships." While the St. Charles Athlete of the Week may not be a big-time championship, Matt hit the nail on the head, because this week's winner was a goalie.  After north of 5,000 votes, Timberland's Erica Boyd has been tabbed by you, the voting crowd, as the top girls soccer player in St. Charles County for the first week of the season.
