St. Peters Police said Nathaniel A. Gathing, 35, of Wentzville pointed the gun at another driver and then tried to evade police.
A Wentzville man is accused of pointing a handgun at his girlfriend’s husband while driving on Interstate 70 in St. Peters. Nathaniel A. Gathing, 35, of the 500 block of Great Oaks Meadow in Wentzville, was charged by St. Charles County prosecutors May 2 with unlawful use of a weapon. St. Peters Police said a driver was westbound on I-70 at the Cave Springs exit when a teal Camaro, driven by Gathing, pulled up next to him. He said Gathing began yelling at him, and the man rolled down his window to hear what the Gathing was saying. A St. Peters man punched his wife and grabbed her nose, causing it to bleed on Feb. 10, police said. Stephan Surplus, 43, of the 1500 block of Athens Drive in St. Peters, was charged Feb. 10 with third-degree domestic assault. St. Peters Police said Surplus punched his wife in the arm twice, shoved her over and then grabbed her nose, causing a nosebleed. Officers reported that a witness said Surplus is an excessive alcohol drinker and uses cocaine. “The victim believes if he is released, he will return to the house and assault her again,” police wrote in a report. “The suspect appeared to be increasingly agitated at the prospect of being removed from the residence.” Surplus posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond and was released Monday. Robert B. Smith, 53, of the 100 block of Timber Run Court in St. Peters, was charged with third-degree domestic assault July 23. St. Peters Police said that on July 5, Smith pushed his wife into a bathroom wall twice, grabbed her throat and tried to choke her.
