Patch will send questionnaires to the two candidates running in the April election for the Ward 3 seat on the Board of Aldermen. What questions should we include?
Two candidates have filed to run for the Ward 3 seat on the St. Peters Board of Aldermen in the April 2 election. As we approach the election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in. And we would like to include all of you in the process. The two candidates, Terri Violet and Michelle Walker, will compete for the remaining two years in Former Alderman Gus Elliot's term. Gus Elliott, who won the spot in 2011, resigned following a harassment investigation. Violet was appointed to fill the open seat until the April 2 election. What questions do you have for the candidates? Do you have a question about a particular issue? Or would you like to know the …

The St. Peters Board votes unamiously to appoint Terri Violet to fill the vacant seat.
St. Peters Ward 3 once again has two representatives on the Board of Aldermen. During Thursday's special meeting to appoint a replacement for Gus Elliott, who resigned Sept. 13, the board unanimously approved Mayor Len Pagano's appointment of Terri Violet. Violet received affirmative votes from all the aldermen present. Fellow Ward 3 Alderman Tommy Roberts was absent from the meeting. Ward 2 Alderman Judy Bateman said she wished the vote could take place when Roberts was at the meeting since he would be working closely with Violet. Jerry Hollingsworth, Ward 2, said during the discussion portion that while he was planning on voting yes, he would rather the board not fill the seat with an appointment. He made it clear that it had nothing …

Well Jim, the best analogy I can give you is that of "man's best friend"; inside dogs tend to be lapdogs while outside dogs tend to be watchdogs. I personally believe that we need a lot more watchdogs who will make noise when something alarms them and a lot fewer lapdogs(politicians). We as citizen's SHOULD already have a venue for our ideas and concerns through our elected representatives; …   more ›
Road connection will provide traffic relief on Interstate 70, major arterial roads for residents north of I-70. St. Peters aldermen also approve CarMax Auto Superstore, tents for I-70 Shoppers Fair during Thursday meeting.
The missing 900-foot section of Ehlmann Road between Shady Springs and Executive Centre Parkway should be completed this summer, Public Works Services Manager Russ Batzel told St. Peters aldermen Thursday. “It’s a critical piece for additional traffic circulation in St. Peters,” Batzel said. “Residents won’t be forced to get on I-70 or other main roads to get to Truman Boulevard. It’s a good reliever route.” Batzel said the project would be bid out in the spring. Construction would begin and be completed this summer. The $1.3 million project is funded 80 percent through the St. Charles County Road Fund with a 20 percent match by the City of St. Peters. Batzel also told St. Peters aldermen the railroad crossing project on Executive Center …

City agrees to put a proposed two percent tax on hotels and motels on the Feb. 7, 2012, election ballot.
The St. Peters Board of Aldermen kicked of September by approving one resolution and six new ordinances.
Just a day after the Planning and Zoning Commission quickly took care of business, the St. Peters Board of Aldermen did the same. Both the work session and the meeting clocked in just more than an hour Thursday night. The Board tackled each item on the agenda and finished the night with one passed resolution and six new ordinances. The work session moved quickly after Ward 3 Alderman Gus Elliott tabled the lone discussion topic. Elliott was sponsoring a discussion about a potential change to Code Amendment Title IV Chapter 405—a code that involved group housing regulations. Elliott said he needed more time to do research and that he jumped the gun in putting the item on the agenda. He motioned to table the discussion and the rest of the …

The St. Peters Board of Aldermen revisits issues with group homes and plan to allow foster animals in residences.
At Thursday night’s board of aldermen work session, the board revisited issues surrounding an ordinance that says group homes are not to be within 2,500 feet of each other. In open forum, Georgia Conlon said her sister, who has a mental disability, is unable to move into a new home with her roommates because the building is too close to another group home. Conlon’s sister worked through a nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities find housing. The nonprofit was unaware that another group home resides 1,800 feet from the property, which violates city code. Because one keeps records of where group homes are in the city, City Administrator Bill Charnisky suggested inspecting non-owner homes instead of changing the ordinance. …

Board debates internal issues, park naming at June meeting.
For the first time in nearly a month, the St. Peters Board of Aldermen returned to work in the chambers of the Justice Center. After not having a meeting the first Thursday in June, the Board was back in action June 23 and ready to tackle a lengthy agenda. Things kicked off at the work session, where to Board spent a majority of the time talking about two agenda items. The work session was supposed to begin with a discussion on park naming, but Alderman Jerry Hollingsworth, Ward 2, asked if that discussion could take place later in the meeting. Hollingsworth said Alderman Gus Elliott, Ward 3, wanted to share his thoughts on the issue and, since he wasn’t in his seat when the work session started, Hollingsworth wanted to give him a chance …
