Community Garden Plots Available in St. Peters

St. Peters Parks Department has designated two areas of the city for community gardens. Applications for plots are now available.

St. Peters residents looking for a patch of ground to grow some vegetables and flowers this summer now have an opportunity to till two new community gardens. This year, the city is offering 25 garden plots for rent at two community gardens, said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hutsler. The gardens are located at Oak Creek Park, located off of Willot Road, east of Spencer Road, and at a small patch of land at the intersection of Mexico and Kimberly Drive. "We just saw what available green space we had and the proximity," Hutsler said. "We wanted to get them in an area where there were a lot of residents, where they could easily be found." MoDOT Plans Open House in St. Peters to Discuss Interstate 70 Interchange Reconstruction

The open house will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 at St. Peters City Hall.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be hosting an open house public meeting to go over plans relating to the reconstruction project of the Interstate 70 and Mid Rivers Mall Drive interchange. MoDOT has plans to transform the busy area into a diverging diamond interchange. The plans are similar to what was done at the Interstate 270 and Dorsett Road interchange in Maryland Heights. In addtion to the diverging diamond interchange, the project also includes the construction of an additional westbound I-70 lane between Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Route 79. St. Peters Kicks Off Holiday Season

City hosts tree lighting to start the season.

The city of St. Peters kicked off the holiday season on Friday night with the 22nd annual tree lighting ceremony.  A crowd packed into the Cultural Arts Centre at St. Peters City Hall for a night of holiday music and lights. The Fort Zumwalt East orchestra kicked things off with some holiday tunes.  After that, the St. Peters Performing Arts Music Studio gave a teaser presentation of it's "'Glee'ful Holiday Celebration" show. The St. Peters Choral Society also sang a few songs to the packed house.  Lindenwood's Vocals Only sang more songs and finally the tree in front of City Hall was lit kicking off the 2011 holiday season.

Several Memorial Day Ceremonies Planned in St. Charles County

Take an hour to honor members of the military who gave their lives in service.

St. Peters St. Peters will host a memorial day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peters City Veterans Memorial at St. Peters City Centre Park, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd. at Mexico Road. Featured speakers include Lt. Col. Ronald Neubauer, a Vietnam Veteran.  St. Charles St. Charles Veterans Commission will host a Memorial Day Tribute at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Veterans' Memorial at Bishop's Landing. The St. Charles Municipal Band will play, and a roll call of departed veterans will be followed by a wreath laying and rifle salute.  St. Charles Memorial Gardens will host a Veterans' Memorial Program at 2 p.m. Sunday at 3950 West Clay Street. Veterans' names will be read aloud and St. Charles County veterans organizations will participate…

Gus Elliott, Ward 3 Alderman, enjoys writing, serving the community and being a Girl Scout.

Ask Gus Elliott, St. Peters Ward 3 Alderman, what the best part of his job is, and he will say, “It is about helping the people.” Elliott was elected in 2007 to serve a four year term. He got his start in city politics as a member of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He has filed for re-election in 2011. “The job of an alderman is simple," Elliott said.
