Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree. Each week, St. Peters Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. Whiz Kids: Matt Kimmel Honored

Lutheran High School student excels at anatomy and physiology, and advanced placement calculus.

Name: Matt Kimmel School: Lutheran High School Accomplishment: Matt Kimmel was one of 11 students in St. Charles County honored by Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles as part of its STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) initiative. He is taking anatomy and physiology, and advanced placement calculus. He is involved in tennis, soccer, drama, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Business Leaders of America. He plans to attend Missouri State University or Iowa State University and major in biology.

Whiz "Kid": Alex Riggs Turns Pro

Fort Zumwalt South grad Alex Riggs has signed a contract to play professional soccer with the MLS team in Columbus.

Fort Zuwmalt South graduate Alex Riggs is taking his talents to Columbus. Riggs, a soccer goalkeeper, signed with the Columbus Crew of the MLS to keep his soccer career going. Riggs, 22, played collegiality at Missouri State University. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010 and in 2009 was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year in the conference. He earned an All-MVC first team selection his senior season for the third time in his career. In 2010, he led the conferences in goals against average (0.73), save percentage (.854) and shutouts (9), with six of his shutouts coming in conference games. The 6-foot-4 keeper led Fort Zumwalt South High to a 25-4-1 record and a Gateway Athletic Conference …
