MoDOT Reopens All Lanes, Ramps on Eastbound I-70

Multiple lanes had been shutdown since Sunday.

MoDOT reopens all lanes and ramps on eastbound I-70 between Shreve and West Florissant in downtown St. Louis this morning at 5 a.m. Emergency crews completed the pavement repairs where they removed pavement from the interstate and re-built this section in one day.

Two lanes were closed in this section of I-70 on Sunday and Monday following severe rain early Sunday morning. Pressure from the heavy rains caused a sewer structure under the pavement to buckle, and that pressure ruptured the pavement. The entrance ramp to eastbound I-70 from Shreve/Bircher was also closed. MoDOT and emergency crews responded immediately after the incident occurred.

"We made excellent progress in completing the repairs on I-70 within 48 hours of the incident," said Deanna Venker, MoDOT Area Engineer for St. Louis City in a press release. "We thank motorists for helping us minimize traffic congestion in this area by using alternate routes and adjusting their travel times."
