Man Arrested for Disturbance at First Baptist Church

Dustin Ostmann, 26, was arrested following an incident on Tuesday.

The arrested a man after he entered First Baptist Church St. Peters on Mid Rivers Mall Drive and allgedly assaulted three people on Tuesday, March 29. The man was identified as Dustin Ostman, 26, of St. Charles. 

Ostmann admitted to police he had bought and smoked “Supercense,” which is synthetic marijuana, when he started having hallucinations. He told officers he picked First Baptist Church St. Peters, located at 3533 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, because his hallucinations were starting to scare him and he wanted to go anywhere to get help. 

The St. Peters Police Department said it does not appear Ostmann had any prior connections to this church and it was picked at random.

The St. Peters Police Department said Ostmann entered the church, and ran screaming through the hallway. Police say he pushed down a 14-year-old person did not receive any injuries.  A 71-year-old employee of the church was  then assaulted after trying to block Ostmann from entering another room, according to the Police.  

The Police say Ostmann threw a table at the employee which caused an injury to his shoulder area. The employee was transported to Progress West Hospital.

Ostmann allegedly assaulted a third subject, a 61-year-old church employee, who was able to restrain him until the Police Department was notified and arrived on scene.  Ostmann was arrested without any further incident. 

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued warrants for Assault 2nd and two counts of Assault 3rd.  Ostmann has a $20,000 bond, no 10 percent authorized.  He is currently being held at St. Charles County Jail.
