A St. Charles County man is accused of attempting to rob an undercover officer during an arranged drug deal Tuesday.

Jeremy Lee Routt, 24, of the 600 block of Jungs Station Road in St. Charles County, was charged Wednesday with attempted first-degree robbery, three counts of distributing a controlled substance, stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

A St. Charles County Drug Task Force report indicates Routt sold marijuana to an undercover officer three times, on May 9, May 21 and May 23. The officer said he arranged to buy a half-pound of marijuana for $2,500 in a deal that Routt would broker.

However, when Routt showed up for the deal June 4, he was arrested by Drug Task Force members. They discovered Routt had not arranged the deal for the marijuana, but had a 9 mm handgun on him and had a stun gun near the driver’s seat in his car.

According to the police report, Routt told officers he planned to commit a robbery and did not arrange for a marijuana deal.

Officers discovered the handgun belonged to Routt’s roommate, and he took the firearm without permission. Routt also has previous felony convictions for burglary and receiving stolen property, and is banned from possessing a handgun.

Routt is being held by St. Charles County Corrections. Bail was set at $100,000, cash only.
