St. Peters Man Apprehended After Firing Shots Inside His Home

Timothy J. Copeland, 54, of St. Peters, was charged with Attempted Arson 2nd degree, Property Damage 1st and Unlawful Use of a Firearm.

St. Peters Police have a suspect in custody after shots were fired Monday morning. 

Police responded to the first block of Julie Lane at around 11:30 a.m. after reports of shots being fired and arrested Timothy J. Copeland, 54, of St. Peters, following an investigation, according to a release by the St. Peters Police Department. When police reached the scene, a neighbor reported a bullet had come through the drywall of her house. During further investigation, police discovered about 10 bullet holes on the side of Copeland's residence. 

During the search of the area, police heard more shots coming from Copeland's home. Police took cover and Copeland exited through the garage. He complied with officers without incident.

Police noticed the house had a strong odor of gasoline and all utilities were shut off before the house was searched.

There were no injuries associated with this incident and the interior of the home had extensive property damage. Police later discovered Copeland was residing with family members after just being released from prison last month for Arson 2nd degree.

The weapons in the incident belonged to the homeowner and were property secured inside of the home prior to the shooting.

Copeland was charged with Attempted Arson 2nd degree, Property Damage 1st and Unlawful Use of a Firearm.  St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued on all charges with a $50,000 bond, no 10%.
