Planning and Zoning Approves Permit for New Courtyard by Marriott in St. Peters

In just 20 minutes the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission finished up business for July.

The commission met July 10—one week later than normal thanks to the Fourth of July holiday—and took care of business in a rapid fashion. Faced with just four agenda items, the commission quickly went to work.

Two of the items on the agenda were home occupation permit requests. The approved requests for Hayes Ware, LLC (a web/software consulting service) and Affinity Entertainment Productions, LLC (a consulting and educational workshop).

Following the approvals, the commission moved on to the two scheduled public hearings. The first hearing was a request for a special use permit from Midas St. Peters, LLC.

Midas Hospitality wants to open a hotel/restaurant and transmission with towers/antennas attached to a structure. The site, located at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Jungermann Road is the former Holiday Inn and Garden Plaza Hotel. The group closed its sale on July 1 and closed the facility.

Midas plans to demolish the old hotel and conference space and replace it with a new 125-room Courtyard by Marriott. While the site plans are not totally finished, Midas said the plans include using the whole lot to build both a hotel and a restaurant.

Plans also include an AT&T antennae somewhere. Midas wants to place the tower somewhere on the site or on top of the building—depending on how the site plan process goes.

The Courtyard by Marriott would be the first of its kind in St. Charles County.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the staff's findings of fact and made a motion to recommend approval to the Board.

After a short executive session, the commission had a second hearing relating to a change to St. Peters Municipal Code—specifically and update to Title IV Land Use (Chapter 405). The change updates language regarding group homes. With no public objection, the code will commission made a motion to recommend approval to the Board of Aldermen.
