Planning and Zoning to Discuss Cell Phone Tower at Meeting

St. Peters Commission to host August meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission will continue a conversation about a cell phone tower at Wednesday's regular monthly meeting.

At 6:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 3, the Commission will meet at the Justice Center. The top item on the agenda is a continuation of Old Business relating to the construction of a cell phone tower.

At , the Commission heard a plan from St. Charles Tower, Inc. to build a new cell phone tower located on the north side of Cloverleaf Drive South, east of Cave Springs Drive. The Commission had no problems with the location or even the plan to build a tower, but rather what the tower was going to look like. City code regulations said the tower should be disguised, but the Commission wondered if a faux tree look is actually much of a disguise.

St. Charles Tower agreed to come back to the August meeting and the city agreed to look into changing the code. St. Charles Tower proposed a a flush-mounted monopole that doesn’t have fake branches and doesn’t double as a flagpole. The pole would be painted a drab color so as to not stand out. The Commission will decide tonight if that's allowable, or if the tower has to be a faux tree of a flagpole.
