Years in St. Peters: 25 Year Ward 3 Resident

Background:

My six year term in the US Navy (1981-’87) was in Executive Administration. I have held supervisory positions in the Customer Service field and on Disaster Assistance Teams at the local and national level. I have proven myself by serving honorably as Ward 3’s full time Alderman. Since being appointed I have been instrumental in helping to open St. Peters businesses bringing more jobs to our city. In our Ward road/traffic conditions were threatening our children’s safety in school bus accidents. I sought for and received input from our city staff and residents. It was determined road sign installations would rectify the safety issue. The problem was solved within days of receiving the concern! Since taking office I have personally visited hundreds of Ward 3 residents and began the establishment of a Ward 3 emergency/update communication list keeping residents close to their government.

Why are you running for election?

Serving people is my passion! I have the time, energy and skills required to be an effective Alderman. Residents want a representative that is ethical and available when needed. I have a personal and public history of maintaining the highest ethical standards while reaching out and serving residents in our great city.   My focus is to work together with residents, city staff and businesses to rebuild all of the blighted areas of Ward 3 with thriving businesses. St. Peters residents deserve a full time Alderman. Residents deserve a leader who is devoted to our city and skilled at building positive relationships. A main goal of mine that is shared with city residents is to attract new business and development projects that do not result in emptying other buildings in our city.  My desire is to maintain a “Hometown” that is a great place to live, work and enjoy your family!

What would you change about the City of St. Peters if you were given the opportunity?

It is my strongest desire to see residents “connected” to their government. Holding elected public office requires working with people of all backgrounds. I truly desire to remove the partisan aspects of holding political office. St. Peters has a diverse population with people of differing political backgrounds. I believe we all share in wanting our community to be prosperous. I have implemented a bi-monthly Ward 3 Informational e-letter with the express purpose of bringing people together.

What are your thoughts on the growth of St. Peters' laws, rules and regulations?

My legislative goal is to have as few laws, rules and regulations as possible. I believe as a lawmaker we have a responsibility to filter out the emotion at the initial phase of making a new law.

In 2008 State Auditor Susan Montee took exception to the contracts given to the city manager and police chief. These contracts were renewed for a second time. What is your position on these types of contracts? What would you do when they come up for extension again?

My position is that any future contract should be in line with other governments and agencies trying to attract the best professionals to run their organization. Any new contract will be in line with the State of Missouri’s recommendation.

What would be your top priority, if elected?

Since my appointment as Ward 3 Alderman I have been providing residents with a valuable connection to their government. This communication link is my highest priority so I may represent their views, seek and gain feedback as I govern. Ward 3 residents value that I appreciate their input.
