Athlete of the Week: Zumwalt South's Abbington Picks up Award

The Bulldogs' Chase Abbington is the fan choice for top football player from Week 2 of the high school season.

Chase Abbington's big Week 2 didn't go unnoticed.

After leading the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs to a win, Abbington came up big again. With 83 percent of the vote, Abbington won the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award.

Who was the top football player from Week 2 of the 2012 season?

  • Chase Abbington—: 5 votes (83 percent)
  • Kyle Bazzel—: 1 votes (16 percent)
  • Clay Stulce—: 0 votes (0 percent)

Abbington had a good day on the ground against Francis Howell Central would be a bit of an understatement. The Bulldogs' senior running back dominated the Spartans in the rain. Abbington carried the ball an incredible 44 times for a staggering 324 yards—for the less math inclined that a 7.4 yards per carry average. Two of his carries resulted in touchdowns—two of the three the Bulldogs scored all game. His final score, a 49-run in the fourth quarter, broke a 14-all tie and helped Zumwalt South improve to 2-0 on the season.
