Lady Bulldogs Drop Game to Francis Howell 3-0

Fort Zumwalt South falls to 4-4 with a loss on Tuesday.

The Francis Howell Lady Vikings’ soccer team’s success story continued last night with a 3-0 non-conference home victory against the Lady Bulldogs.

Francis Howell improved to 5-0 with the win.

The Lady Vikings wasted little time in establishing dominance. Freshman forward Jordan Catalano started things off with a goal 10 minutes into the first half. Senior forward Melanie Hunt added another goal 12 minutes and 30 seconds before the end of the first half. Hunt fired off a shot just a few yards from the goal that found the back of the net.

“The girls game out strong tonight,” Francis Howell coach Janet Muehling said. “This is only our fifth game and in our past two games the girls came out kind of sluggish. They were more the second half team than a first half team. Tonight we played with a lot of intensity and put more things together as a team with good passing and a lot of movement. Then we went ahead and the ball in the net.”

Francis Howell’s offensive machine continued its forward momentum in the second half, as it had four shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

“With what we had done in the first half, we were feeling more comfortable,” Muehling said. “They went out there knowing what they could do. Julie Mooney, Jordan Catalano and Melanie Hunt worked together well up top and we had a good defense and a good midfield, too. Everything is coming together for us.”

Mooney’s goal with 29 minutes and 29 seconds left to play made the score 3-0. The Lady Vikings had eight shots on goal in the second half while the Lady Bulldogs had just two.

“We just had a rough game,” Fort Zumwalt South coach Vernon Gano said. “We  couldn’t get anything together. They’re a very good team. Last week we lost to Pattonville in a tough overtime game. Since that game we haven’t been able to get our heads on straight.”

The Lady Bulldogs drop to 4-4 with the loss. They lost 3-2 to Pattonville on March 24.
