Rascals Report: River City on a Roll

The Rascals have won six in a row and nine of its last 10 to take a commanding seven-game lead in the Frontier League's West Division.

The River City Rascals and the St. Charles County weather have something in common lately—both are hot.

Since losing Sunday, July 17, the Rascals have reeled off six straight wins and have won nine of the last 10. The recent hot streak, combined with the season-long stellar play have given the Rascals the best record in the Frontier League. River City is 41-15 (.732 winning percentage) and the first time to win 40 and the last team to not have 20 losses. With the success, River City has racked up a seven-game lead in the West Division.

  • Sunday, July 17: Southern Illinois .
  • Monday, July 18: The Normal CornBelters lost 9-5 to the Rascals.
  • Tuesday, July 19: The Rascals won 11-3 against Normal. 
  • Wednesday, July 20: The Rascals swept the Cornbelters with a 5-3 win.
  • Thursday, July 21: In a battle of the top-two teams in the West Division, the Rascals won .
  • Friday, July 22: Southern Illinois lost to the Rascals 7-3.
  • Saturday, July 23: The Rascals completed the Southern Illinois sweep with an 8-7 win.

The Rascals continue to play without a day off. The next day off is Monday, Aug. 1. Until then, River City will be playing every day.

  • Third baseman Chris McClendon is 10-for-24 (.417) in his last six games.
  • Outfielder Chad Maddox has gone 11-for-29 (.379) with three doubles, a homer and eight RBIs in the last seven days.
  • Of Jason Patton's last nine hits, four have been doubles and two have been home runs. 
  • Zach Sterner pitched 13 innings last week and was 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA. He also had 10 strikeouts against one walk.

Who’s Not

Some Rascals, but not many, have had trouble getting things going after four days off. 

  • Pitcher Wayde Kitchens gave up five runs in 3.1 innings pitched last week.
  • Bobby Burk is just 4-for-29 in the last week, but he does have three home runs.
